DVQ Outreach is committed to supporting various local charities by making and donating children’s quilts, pillowcases and scent hearts. Learn more below.

PILLOWCASE & BABY QUILT KITS

The pillowcases are distributed through Ryan's Case for Smiles to:
    • UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland and Walnut Creek
    • Kaiser Hospital in Oakland and Santa Clara
    • John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek

The baby quilts go to:

    • Black Infant Health program
    • Healthy Start
    • Contra Costa Prenatal progam
    • Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

Each month a workshop is held at the DVQ Studio. You may also pick up materials to sew at home. Workshops and materials are provided free of charge and all members are encouraged to participate on the last Friday of the month unless otherwise noted in the newsletter.

SCENT HEARTS

Scent hearts are given to parents whose infants are cared for in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kaiser Santa Clara.  Parents wear these hearts next to their skin, absorbing their respective scents.  The hearts are taken to the NICU and placed in the isolettes with the infants whereby the infants can continue to bond with the parents even when the parents are unable to be present.  The nurses in the NICU will further instruct parents on the use and handling of the scent hearts.

Scent hearts are made from 100% cotton flannel measuring approximately 5 inches by 5 inches.  Hearts should be made in sets of four.   All four hearts should be made of the same patterned fabric.
